The Endless Marathon

The hip hop community was recently robbed of one our most inspiring pillars with the tragic passing of Nipsey Hussle.  Nip influenced people not only in Los Angeles, but across the world. The work he did for the community and the youth made him more than a recording artist. He looked like us, spoke the lingo, and experienced the same everyday struggle. That’s why his connection was so strong with the us.

His projects were motivational speeches in the form of music. I personally loved that he embraced where he came from, promoted overcoming obstacles that we may stumble upon , and the path of entrepreneurship. His debut album “Victory Lap” was so relatable and impactful to me that I had to list my favorite lines that connected with me the most.

While time is the best healing, Nip’s passing will always present fresh feelings. Since his passing, some has compared his life to Jesus Christ because of his age at death, 33, and the impact he had on the people. Videos of rival gangs coming together across turns the United States have showered social media due to the result of this tragic event. Even the city of Los Angeles has named Crenshaw and Slauson , Nipsey Hussle Square. Nipsey wore his ethics on his sleeve and was always “front line” , as he would say , to create a better environment for the people which he achieved. Although the Marathon Continues, let’s look at it like a relay, and take the baton from Nipsey to keep his vision and name alive.
