BLOG : No More Swaggy in LA?

Written by Ball Hog Beats

With the summer slowly fading away , I made sure I caught tail end of The Drew League, LA’s most prized pro-am basketball league. In the last two weeks of the playoffs, I got a chance to see a few NBA ballers in action like James Harden, Brandon Jennings, Dorell Wright, Stanley Johnson, Terrence Ross, and Shaqtin a Fool legend JaVale McGee. But there was one player I didn’t mention, that I was very concerned with. Nick Young. During three years with the Los Angeles Lakers, the LA native easily became a fan favorite in the city. From the three pointer celebrations, to the comical post game interviews, charisma, and admirable personality helped his stardom grow while playing for the purple and gold. As a Laker fan , all I could do is wonder, am I watching Swaggy’s last games in Los Angeles here at the Drew League??

This past season Nick Young had many challenges that had the media buzzing. He couldn’t get a break. First, tallying career lows in both points per game (7.3 ppg) and three point percentage (32.5%), and playing limited minutes during Kobe Bryant’s farewell season. With the not Swaggy play, it lead to trade rumors, something that is known to spike the confidence of athletes of all sports. Next was the D'Angelo Russell incident. Russell secretly video recorded Young making comments detailing infidelity with a woman that was not his rapper fiancé Iggy Azalea that leaked for the world to see. D'Angelo was recently spotted at Staples Center for Drake’s Summer 16 Tour where he was heckled by fans yelling, “Hide your phone”. At the time of the incident it caused friction in the locker room which lead to more trade rumors. Nick and Iggy tried to work things out, but eventually decided to part ways. Although he made a mistake that went public and had a below average year of basketball, Young still tried to remain positive regardless of the situations at hand. Recently in a interview he revealed that he has been trying to patch things up with D'Angelo Russell, and his desire to remain a Laker. The uncertainties still floats around the city about his future, with reports that the Lakers were attempting to buy out his contract . We’ll never know until the season start, so we wait. The city of LA always shows support of their players. Regardless what happened last season, many fans are still rooting for Swaggy P.
